Being able to set realistic & achievable goals with clients is the mark of an excellent EFT practitioner. But it's not something we are taught a lot about in EFT, & it takes practice to learn.

And if you're working with people who have experienced trauma, it can be even trickier!

"Finishing my website" might seem small, but this goal could have lots of trapped survival stress lurking underneath! Be prepared & not scared to navigate trauma by learning the baby steps to succeed.

Being able to set realistic and achievable goals with clients is the mark of an excellent EFT practitioner. It’s the difference between being a good practitioner and a great practitioner.

Learning how to set and achieve goals effectively will help to get you repeat clients. They will refer others and that’s how you end up with organic word-of-mouth referrals.

There is little need to promote yourself then, as your clients are doing that for you!

But goal setting is not something we are NOT taught a lot about in our level 1 and 2 EFT training, or in most degrees.

I certainly didn’t learn anything about it in my Social Work degree.

As an EFT trainer I know there is so much to cover to help people learn Basic EFT and the trauma techniques, there is not time to also teach goal setting.

I have also learned that goal setting is a more advanced skill that needs to come later, once the practitioner has a solid foundation of Basic EFT.

Once they have had plenty of practice getting the Basics right.

I did not really learn how to do goal setting properly until I did my mentoring for my Advanced Certification in EFT.

But when I did master this, my practice really took off.

Because I learned to set very clear, realistic, measurable goals with my clients it was very obvious when we were able to achieve these.

It was also pretty obvious when we did NOT reach our goals.

Which made me really want to Master the art of Setting Good Goals!

When it’s obvious that you have achieved your goals in the first package of sessions, lots of clients will then want to see how EFT can help them in other areas of their life.

They want to keep working with you.

It’s a win win - for them and for you!

This is how I built a waitlist practice.

That and also being very good at working with trauma.

Goal setting in a way that appreciates the trauma context of your client is a real skill that takes practice to learn, and even more practice to master.

You will find that if you are working with people who have experienced significant trauma, goal setting can be even trickier.

Your clients might want to set big global goals like “Lose 5 kilograms” or “Meet someone new” or “finish my website”.

These might not seem like big things to aim for, but depending on your client’s trauma history, goals like this could be very unrealistic.

At least within the short term, or a single package of six EFT sessions.

If the goal is not achieved, clients can then end up feeling like a “failure” that even the amazing EFT was not able to help them. :(

Just touching into the “hopeless” feeling they have when thinking about losing that weight, you might encounter a whole lotta trapped survival stress in their body.

Who knows what traumas are lurking underneath a big global goal like that……just waiting to erupt in your EFT session.

In this training, I will share what I have learned in my practice about how to navigate goal setting with people who do have a known trauma history.

All knowledge and skills you can also apply to those who are not so aware of their trauma history.

My goal will be to help you to feel prepared and not scared when it comes to working with the body when the trauma shows up, in a collaborative way.

You will learn concrete practical ways to:

  • discover what questions to ask to find out how your client’s limiting beliefs about themselves are currently showing up.

  • find out what matters most to your client, why is this goal they want to set important to them now.

  • what will achieving that goal look like in real life, and how to measure progress.

  • what the “baby steps” towards that goal might be.

  • creating relevant statements on limiting beliefs / VOC statements which are custom designed for your clients, reflecting their core issues and the desired changes.

  • how to use The Banana Bread Analogy I developed myself to work on goals in a trauma sensitive way with clients, and showing them how they can apply these tools when tapping at home themselves.

  • You will have a simple structure to follow to help your clients set realistic goals, measure the progress regularly, and reach those goals too.

Help your EFT practice take off with increased confidence in goal setting and working with trauma.

Handouts and resources included.
